The Amityville Horror
Literally everyone is familiar with these horror movies. However, few people know that these stories are based on real mysterious cases investigated by the Ed and Lorraine Warren. The most famous American investigators, seeking evidences of the existence of paranormal phenomenon
More than 10,000 big cases have been investigated by the Warrens over the years
THEY MET IN 1943
Shortly after, Ed was sent to serve in the U.S. Navy, but that didn’t stop the two from getting married a few years later
Lorraine realized since high school that she had the gift of clairvoyance, noticed the light coming from people and could sense if a person had a bad aura.
Ed had to live in a house with ghosts that he alone could see. No one took him seriously, so he had to study up on ghosts on his own and learned how to protect himself from them
A YEAR AFTER THEIR WEDDING, THE WARRENS BEGAN TRAVELING THE COUNTRY IN SEARCH OF PEOPLE WHO HAD ENCOUNTERED THE SUPERNATURAL
AND LUCKY FOR THE COUPLE, THERE WERE MANY...
BUT WERE THEY ACTUALLY
ENCOUNTERED SUPERNATURAL?

The Amityville
murders
One of the Warrens' most famous investigations
ON THE NIGHT OF NOVEMBER 13,
1974, RONALD DEFEO SHOT SIX OF HIS FAMILY MEMBERS
Including his parents, two brothers and two sisters
ON THE NIGHT OF NOVEMBER 13, 1974, RONALD DEFEO SHOT SIX OF HIS FAMILY MEMBERS
AT HIS TRIAL, RONALD claimed to have heard voices that told him to kill his family
For 28 days, the voice literally urged the young man to commit the act. He was found sane at the time of the murders and sentenced to 150 years in prison
The Lutz family moved in a year after on December 18, 1975
Things were fine at first, but the Lutz family began to experience strange things:

- A huge number of flies in the attic, inexplicable smells and noises;
- Their 5-year-old daughter, Missy, began talking about their new "friends" - a boy (who looked suspiciously like a murdered kid) and a piglet-like creature with red eyes
THE PRIEST TRIED TO BLESSED THE HOUSE, BUT THINGS ONLY GOT WORSE
The father began to wake up regularly at 03:15 a.m. (the estimated time of the Defeo family’s murder).

After 28 days in Amityville, the Lutz family packed up and left the cursed place
THEN THE WARRENS
Yet something interfered with Mrs. Warren’s attempts to have a spiritistic session in the house
The reporters then decided to install a camera on the second floor of the house, which recorded a strange phenomenon — a figure of a small boy appeared on one of the pictures.
CAME AT THE HOUSE
Lutz daughter recognized the boy as her "friend", who appeared at night. When the Warrens compared the photo of the ghost and pictures of Ronald DeFeo’s younger brother, they came to the conclusion that it was his spirit that was in the sight of the camera at the time of the photo
The couple dug deeper into the house's previous occupants and discovered the truth:
SEVERAL CENTURIES AGO, THE OWNER OF THE HOUSE WAS JOHN KETCHUM, A BLACK MAGIC PRACTITIONER.
AFTER HIS DEATH, HIS BODY WAS BURIED ON THOS LAND, AND IT WAS HE WHO BECAME THE EVIL SPIRIT THAT HAUNTED ITS INHABITANTS
The Perron Family
AND WERE GIVEN STRANGE ADVICE FROM THEIR NEIGHBORS: "FOR THE WELLBEING OF YOUR FAMILY, LEAVE THE LIGHTS ON AT NIGHT!"
The events that inspired the 2013 horror movie The Conjuring
ON JANUARY 1971, THE family
A farmhouse in Harrisville, Rhode Island
AS ED AND LORRAINE ENTERED
THE HOUSE, THEY IMMEDIATELY SENSED THE PRESENCE OF EVIL SPIRITS
AS warrens ENTERED
MOVED INTO A HUGE HOUSE
As time went on, the Perrons girls began to claim that they heard scraping, vicious whispers at night and also felt something invisible touching their feet. Soon the spirits got to the Perron couple as well, focusing on the mother of the family, Carolyn Perron.
The atmosphere in the house was becoming more and more stressful with each day.

But the family had financial difficulties after the move, and there was no possibility to buy another place to live, so they decided to turn to the well-known demon hunters of the time
ON JANUARY 1971,
THE family MOVED INTO A HUGE HOUSE
THEY ATTEMPTED A PURIFICATION RITE, WHICH ONLY ENRAGED THE OTHERWORLDLY ENTITY…
According to Lorraine, the family was haunted by the ghost of Bathsheba Sherman, a witch who lived in the house in the 1840s. The locals believed she was responsible for the murder of her own son, whom she allegedly sacrificed to demonic forces.
AFTER THE RITE FAILED, THE FATHER OF THE FAMILY ASKED THE WARRENS TO LEAVE THE HOUSE
The nightmare ended in 1980, when the family was able to find the money to sell the cursed house and move to another state

The girl was delighted with the touching gift, and immediately took the doll to her apartment, where she lived with her neighbor Angie.
THEN DONNA AND ANGIE CALLED A MEDIUM TO THEIR HOUSE, WHO EXPLAINED THAT INSIDE THE TOY WAS THE SPIRIT OF A DEAD GIRL, ANNABELLE HIGGINS
Soon mysterious events began to occur — the girls constantly found Annabelle in different rooms and different poses, sometimes blood appeared on the doll’s hands. The doll also loved to leave them notes

AFTER EXAMINING THE DOLL, THEY CAME TO SOME DISTURBING CONCLUSION
Now, the doll began to behave aggressively. The frightened girls went to a local church where the priest recommended contacting Ed and Lorraine Warren
HAVING CALMED DOWN WITH THIS EXPLANATION, THE GIRLS DECIDED TO OFFER THE GHOST TO STAY AND LIVE WITH THEM…
ANNABELLE’S SPIRIT IN THE DOLL HAD BEEN POSSESSED BY A DEMON SEEKING A HUMAN HOST
Following this, several purification rites were performed in the Donna and Angie’s apartment, and the doll itself went to the Warrens' museum, where it is kept to this day
Many visitors to the museum asked why the couple did not want to destroy the dangerous artifacts, to which Ed gave a very frightening explanation:
"SOME THINGS ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE TOUCHED MERELY BECAUSE, BY DESTROYING THEM, YOU CAN FREE THE THINGS THAT INHABIT THEM"

THE WARRENS HAVE THEIR MUSEUM IN THE SMALL TOWN OF MONROE, NOT FAR FROM NEW YORK
At first glance nothing remarkable: a narrow and messy room, cluttered with various closets, cabinets and tables.
Occult Museum
EVERY OBJECT, EVEN THE SMALLEST, HAS ONCE STRUCK FEAR INTO ITS OWNER
NEVERTHELESS, THE MUSEUM
MAKES THE IMPRESSION OF HUMAN LIVES
Photo cards, mirrors, boxes, figurines, stuffed animals and birds, even a human mummy, dolls, spoons, other items, countless panels and demon statuettes, and to top it all off, a huge piano

RETURNING TO THE QUESTION
It is difficult to conclude clearly. Many researchers who studied their cases found a lot of odds, proving that all these stories were just well-crafted hoaxes
ARE THEY VICTIMS OF THE WARRENS' INFLUENCE OR THERE REALLY ARE THINGS IN THE WORLD BEYOND THE CONTROL OF THE HUMAN MIND?
